After a pretty solid start to their return to La Primera Division, Real Sociedad meet Real Madrid in San Sebastian on Saturday evening, and coach Martin Lasarte has stated that his men will not be approaching the match with a gung ho attitude.
An opening day victory over Villarreal was the ideal start to the campaign for the Basque side, though they would have been somewhat frustrated to have conceded late on against Almeria last weekend to earn only a 2-2 draw. Los Blancos represent their stiffest challenge to date, as coach Lasarte hinted during his pre-match press conference.
“Let’s play a game against Real Madrid, not nine or ten, because during one game anything can happen,” he stated.
“First you have to believe [you can win]. If not, is not worth talking about going with the knife between your teeth, intensity and stuff.”
Lasarte believes Jose Mourinho already has Madrid moving in the correct direction, highlighting that his side’s challenge is made all the more difficult on Saturday because los Merengues are already showing signs of being a far more complete defensive unit.
