Hercules’ beaming coach Esteban Vigo has claimed that he predicted his team would win 2-0 at the Camp Nou versus Barcelona prior to Nelson Valdez’s sensational double strike on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola’s champions were humbled as the promoted side left Catalunya with the points and inflicted a home defeat on the Blaugrana for the first time in 16 months.
Speaking in an interview with publication AS, the triumphant boss declared that he had forecast the most unlikely of results, saying: “I warned during the week that we would win 2-0. I meant it. I know my management and the potential of my staff. I made them believe in themselves and, therefore, predicted the score beforehand.”
However, Vigo refused to be drawn on the techniques he used to overcome the mighty champions, because after spending 10 years there as a player, he still holds affection for the club and did not want to offer any hints to future opposition.
He continued: “I will not give many clues because they are still the team of my heart and I do not want to tell other competitors how to defeat them. But it is clear that there is a recipe to defeat Barcelona, and thanks to a perfect game, my players we able to apply it in the field.
“I told them not to make any mistakes during the week, and they managed this during the 90 minutes.”
