Atletico Madrid Defender Alvaro Dominguez: Champions League Qualification Is Season Priority
Alvaro Dominguez states that Champions League qualification is main objective for Atletico Madrid this season.

Atletico Madrid defender Alvaro Dominguez has admitted that the club see themselves as an alternative to Barcelona and Real Madrid, but that their objective is to return to the Champions League.
A disappointing league finish last season means los Colchoneros have only qualified for Europe courtesy of their Europa League triumph, and Dominguez maintains that a top four finish in the Primera Division is imperative.
Speaking in a press conference this afternoon the emerging stopper said: “We want to be an alternative to Real Madrid and Barcelona, but last year they beat all scoring records so it will not be easy. We have to go game by game, and not forgetting that our real competitors are the teams battling to enter the Champions League.”
The left-sided 21-year-old, who has been capped at under-21 level by Spain, also stressed how difficult the task of defeating Athletic Bilbao at San Mames will be when they travel to the Basque region on Saturday evening.
He continued: “Playing at San Mames is always complicated. Athletic Bilbao are a very physical team, strong and very dangerous at set-pieces.
“We have improved a lot in defence and shown against bigger, taller teams such as Inter and Fulham that we are prepared for such matches.”
