Zaragoza have released midfielder Frank Songo'o and defender Marko Babic, according to the club's official website.

Los Blanquillos had been working during the transfer window to secure moves, either permanent or loan deals, for both players but failed to do so and as a result have opted to terminate their contracts leaving them as free agents to negotiate with other clubs.

Cameroonian midfielder Songo'o, once a youth at Barcelona, joined Zaragoza in 2008 after failing to impress at Premier League side Portsmouth while 29-year-old Croatian wing-back Babic had signed a two-year deal with the Asturian side last year when he signed from Hertha Berlin.

Both players are now apparently surplus to requirements at la Romereda as a statement read:

"Real Zaragoza announced today the decision to release our club players Frank Songo'o and Marko Babic. During this summer the Aragonese club has tried to agree a transfer or loan assignment for both players. After the transfer period, without being able to complete any of the two operations, the management of the club has decided that the most appropriate decision is to proceed with terminating these contracts."
