Barcelona Defender Carles Puyol Faces Fitness Race For Hercules Clash - Report
Barcelona's Carles Puyol could recover from his calf injury in time to face Hercules this weekend.
By Paul Macdonald
The Spanish international picked up a knock in the warm-up ahead of the Blaugrana’s first league match of the season against Racing Santander.
Puyol then attempted to join up with his Roja team-mates prior to their Euro 2012 qualifying match versus Liechtenstein, but broke down during training and had to be withdrawn.
The calf injury he sustained was expected to keep him out for up to three weeks, but Marca reports that the player had responded very favourably to treatment and is currently ahead of schedule.
He is still under observation by the club’s doctors, and the developments in the next few days will determine whether he will be able to face the newly-promoted side from Alicante this weekend.
