Valencia midfielder Tino Costa has urged his team to show ambition this season and compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid for Primera Liga honours, although he admitted it will not be an easy task.

The 25-year-old Argentinian declared that he believes champions Barca are on a separate level to the rest of the teams in Spain's top flight and insisted that he holds no fear for Jose Mourinho's Madrid side.

"No doubt it will be very difficult. Barcelona are on a level all on their own. I've seen Real Madrid play and I don't fear them. I think Real Madrid, we can play as equals, we can match them. If you say we will finish fourth or fifth, it's not worth the effort. We have to be the most ambitious ever. Then whatever will be, will be, but even when we play against Barca we must go out to win or steal points," he told Super Deporte.

Costa also acknowledged that not playing in the opening game of the season, a 3-1 away win at Malaga, was frustrating for him but noted that he will try his best to convince coach Unai Emery that he is worth his place in the team.

"I came to play and in the first game I was a substitute,  it bothers me but you have to accept these things. I am in a good group with real quality and I must give my best to give the coach doubts and change his mind," he noted.
