Spain Striker Fernando Torres Happy To Match Legend Emilio Butragueno But Disputes David Villa's 'Record'

Spain striker Fernando Torres has declared himself delighted to equal the 26 international goals scored by former striker Emilio Butragueno in la Furia Roja's 4-0 Euro 2012 qualifying win over Liechtenstein.

The Liverpool forward netted a brace to take him joint fifth in the all-time international scoring charts for the current World champions and afterwards said it was important to continue netting goals for his country and follow the lead of Raul and David Villa, although Torres is of the belief that Villa has yet to equal the record set by the Real Madrid legend.

There is one goal of Villa's under dispute, from Spain's 6-0 demolition of Poland prior to travelling to the World Cup, when defender Dariusz Dudka appeared to get a touch on the ball ahead of El Guaje to guide it into the net.

Although Villa is credited with the goal Torres sees Raul as the outright record holder.

"It was nice to match the 26 goals of Butragueno and we must continue hitting the numbers like the 44 of Raul and Villa with 43. That it helps the team to win is good," he told AS.

"It is a great pride and an immense fortune to be playing with this team. We have tak the three points and playing well, it was not as easy as some thought, the level of the opponent was very tough. Every time I feel better and now we go to Argentina to enjoy another nice game."
