Malaga midfielder Apono discussed his side’s opening day defeat at the hands of Valencia in the Primera Division, and commented that the team are still adapting to the tactics employed by new coach Jesualdo Ferreira.

A double from winger Joaquin sent the Andalucians on the road to a 3-1 defeat, disappointing the club’s new owners and supporters who had been optimistic of a positive start to the new campaign.

However, in an interview with Malaga’s official website, the 26-year-old stated that in time the players will be able to play as the coach wants them to.

He said: “We made a very serious error against Valencia, but there were also good things in the match. Little by little, we will be able to convey the ideas the coach wants on the pitch.

“We have a good squad, with many players for each position, so we expect to achieve. The goals are currently week to week, to give everything we have.”

Apono was only a substitute for the match versus Los Che as a result of a muscle injury picked up during pre-season, but the player insists he is now fully fit and ready to give his all for the team.

He said: “I am feeling better. I hope I have the opportunity to play, and to give my all. It will take minutes, confidence and rhythm, but I feel well.”
