Unai Emery Insists Manuel Fernandes Still Has Role To Play At Valencia
Unai Emery believes Manuel Fernandes still has a role to play at Valencia despite Malaga loan deal falling through.

Valencia coach Unai Emery maintains that midfielder Manuel Fernandes will still be a key squad player for the club in the season ahead, despite admitting he was ready to let him leave during the summer transfer window.
Fellow Primera Division side Malaga made a last-ditch loan bid to snare the Portuguese on a season-long deal, but Fernandes rejected the offer to stay at Los Che and fight for his place.
Despite this, Emery believes that Fernandes can still play a crucial role for the Mestalla club, saying in a press conference today: “The player expressed his intention to leave because he believes it will be good for his growth, and he thinks he will not play as regularly as before because of the new signings.
“In response to his request we made an effort to conclude a deal that was best for all parties, but in the end he decided to stay. He is involved and we welcome him with open arms, now that he has decided to stay.”
Emery also stated his confidence that Fernandes is a “player of promise”, and continued: “It is the responsibility of the club and coaching staff to fulfil this promise.”
