Valencia Midfielder Manuel Fernandes Rejected Malaga Loan Deal Before Transfer Deadline

Valencia midfielder Manuel Fernandes turned down a loan move to Malaga prior to the closing of the transfer window, it has emerged.
A deal between the two club's had been agreed with the Andalusian outfit reportedly willing to pay Fernandes entire wage, a saving for los Che of about €3 million, including taxes, over the course of the year.
However, the 24-year-old Portuguese central midfield player, who was understood to have sought a move away from the club, rejected the loan deal. Real Zaragoza are also understood to have failed in a bid to sign the Fernandes.
Now Valencia are demanding that the player live up to expectations by demonstrating he is worthy of playing for the club. Fernandes joined the club for €18 million in 2007 but has failed thus far to make the desired impact at the Mestalla.
"Manuel is still our player and he has demonstrated that by participating in almost all pre-season games. We've always considered him our player," technical secretary Braulio Vazquez told Super Deporte.
"It is evident that he looked for a chance to leaveand when we presented him with a way out he did not accept it. I think the club has behaved very well with him and now he has to do the same, Manuel Fernandes has to prove himself at Valencia, in my point of view."
