Sevilla’s Mouhamadou Dabo has spoken of his delight that striker Luis Fabiano chose to commit his future to the club, and as a result has positive thoughts about the season ahead.
Speculation continued for the majority of the summer linking the Brazilian striker with a move to either Tottenham Hotspur or Olympique Marseille, but as the window’s end drew close Fabiano penned a two-year contract extension to tie him to los Nervionenses until 2013.
Speaking to journalists after training today, Dabo admitted that the 29-year-old’s decision to remain at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan is pivotal, remarking: “He is a world class player and it is very important for us that he stay, it is great for the group.”
Dabo, a summer signing from St. Etienne, also added that in the wake of the Champions League exit at the hands of Sporting Braga, the club must make sure they continue to improve to ensure qualification next season.
“Such is life. We must now work all season to finish in third or fourth place and be able to play in it again. I believe we should always work hard to improve.”
