Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo is still riding the crest of a wave after securing the UEFA Super Cup to add to their Europa League title at the end of last season.

To make things better for Cerezo, the Rojiblancos made a fine start to the season in destroying Sporting Gijon 4-0 in the opening domestic fixture and the club president spoke to Marca to compliment the work of Quique Sanchez Flores and outline what his team can achieve this season.

"If our players are plugged in this season we can do great things. You earn merit not by reaching finals but by winning them," said Cerezo.

When questioned on their rivals Real Madrid, the Atletico president simply said: "Cristiano Ronaldo has no place in our team. I want to see Madrid on the other side of the mirror all year."
