Valencia President Manuel Llorente Has No Regrets In Selling David Villa To Barcelona
Barcelona would never have paid more than €40 million for David Villa claims Valencia president Manuel Llorente.
By Paul Madden
Llorente refuted claims that Villa's performances in South Africa, which contributed to Spain's historic World Cup triumph, would have enabled los Che to demand more than the €40 million they received from the Spanish champions to secure the services of the 28-year-old.
"I do not regret having sold David Villa before the World Cup. A World Cup does not determine the price of a player: neither more or less expensive. Leo Messi, for instance, is not worth less after the World Cup," he said, as quoted by Super Deporte.
"It would not have been possible to get more than €40 million within the current policy of Barcelona which also features a line of major economic austerity."
