Sevilla’s loan signing Martin Caceres believes that the club’s aim should be to challenge Real Madrid and Barcelona for the Primera Division title this season.
The Uruguayan joined Barcelona in 2008 but his options were limited at the Camp Nou, prompting a loan move to Juventus last season, and he has been allowed to join los Nervionenses on a year-long deal this campaign.
Discussing his move to Andalucia in an interview with publication AS, the 23-year-old commented that although there were other offers, he joined a club he is sure can challenge for titles.
He claimed: “With the players Sevilla have, who have already won things, our aim this year should be to win the league. I think that Sevilla always aspire to win the league, but obviously Real Madrid and Barcelona are of a completely different quality.
“The offer of Sevilla was the best because they are a big club and I always look for high goals.”
Caceres also stated that he had not discussed his role in the team but added that he would be happy to play anywhere along the back line for his new team.
“I have not talked to him yet, but played in my first training in the centre. That’s where I used to play in my career and also where I feel most comfortable. But I have no problem playing at either of right or left, as I have done this for Uruguay and Juventus.”
