Javier Mascherano believes he has arrived at the "perfect" club to win trophies by joinng Barcelona.
The Argentine enforcer completed his move from Anfield for a fee of €21 million to become the Blaugrana’s final addition of the summer following deals for David Villa and Adriano from Valencia and Sevilla respectively.
In an interview with Barca TV to discuss his introduction to the team, Mascherano stated that although he has yet to collect an honour in European football, he has moved to the right place to end that barren run.
He said: “I’ve been unlucky in that I haven’t won anything in Europe and I would not want to say at the end of my career that I have won nothing.
“I’m at the ideal club to win titles. At the very least we will fight to win. The team is not tired of winning, and in every game they want to continue demonstrating that they are the best.”
Mascherano is also acutely aware of the level of expectation that arrives with him, saying: “The requirement here is that I will grow and not stay with the abilities I have. That is a major challenge.
"It is the dream of a lifetime to get to a club like this. I will seize this opportunity and try to stay here as long as possible.”
