Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta has revealed that his decision to reject the overtures of Venezuela was taken in the interests of the club but it is not a definitive decision at this stage.
Venezuelan by birth Amorebieta had been called up to the Vinotinto squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Colombia and Ecuador but following discussions with club president Fernando Garcia Macua he has decided to put his international footballing future on hold.
"There is nothing definite. For the sake of club and coach my final decision has been not to go right now, because it is not the best for the club. Many trips and, for now, the matter is parked," the 25-year-old told AS.
"I spoke with them [Venezuelan Football Federation] to explain everything. The best thing for me is the best for the club and the club believes it is not appropriate to go, I won't ignore them. But it's not only look for them, it's also for me.
"You never know what can happen, I am 25-years-old and I have many years of football ahead. There's no pressure from the club, because the club wants the best for me and if they think I should not go..."Follow Goal.com on
