Espanyol coach Mauricio Pochettino has commented that there is still much room for improvement in his squad, despite their 3-1 win over Getafe providing an ideal start to the new campaign.
A Pablo Osvaldo double proved to be the highlight of a fluent Blanc i Blau performance, and the Argentine striker picked up where he left off last season by finding the target.
Speaking to journalists after the match, the Argentine ex-Periquitos players said that although the win was pleasing, there is still work to be done to refine the team.
He said: “It is always good to start with a win, but we still have a long journey in order to be ready. We must continue to be very demanding of ourselves as a team. We have to analyse our performance both individually and collectively.
“Getafe are a team that plays in Europe and have great players. Our challenge is to maintain the level shown in some phases of the match, but we know that this will not be easy.”
Espanyol’s next outing is a trip to Villarreal after the international break, on September 12.
