Deportivo la Coruna 0 - 0 Real Zaragoza

It finished 0-0 between the two sides at the Riazor on Sunday afternoon. Both sides had some good chances but neither managed to make them count. Marco Perez came close to giving Zaragoza the lead as early as the 11th minute but his attempt was saved. Ten minutes later Deportivo's Andres Guardado saw his shot on goal saved.

Ander Herrera came close for the visitors on 56 minutes and do did Riki for the hosts in the 68th minute, just two minutes before Diego Colotto failed to keep his header off an Antonio Tomas cross on target.

Espanyol 3 - 1 Getafe

Espanyol defeated Getafe at the Cornella-El Prat to start the new season with a win.The Catalan side went ahead in the 34th minute when Jose Callejon released Pablo Osvaldo following a quick counter-attack and the latter shot home with his right foot from the centre of the Getafe penalty area.



Ten minutes into the second-half it became 2-0 to Espanyol when Osvaldo scored his second of the game, this time finding the goal from the centre of the box with his right foot. However, the visitors pulled a goal back a couple of minutes after the hour mark Ernesto Galan put the ball into his own goal. But Jesus Datolo scored in injury-time to win the game 3-1 for the hosts.

Osasuna 0-0 Almeria

It ended 0-0 between Osasuna and Almeria at Estadio El Sadar, The hosts could have taken the lead on 13 minutes when Javier Camunas sent Aranda through on goal but the latter's shot was saved. Six minutes before the half-time mark Aranda returned the favour but Camunas too saw his attempt saved.

Osasuna had another good chance to break the deadlock in the 82nd minute when Fernando Soriano released Sergio Fernandez but his header went over the crossbar. Then in injury time Walter Pandiani saw his header sail over the crossbar.

Real Socieded 1-0 Villarreal

La Real made a memorable return to the Spanish top flight as they defeated Villarreal 1-0 at Estadio Anoeta in San Sebastian. The only goal of the game was scored in the 57th minute by Xabi Prieto, who when sent through on goal by former Villarreal striker Joseba Llorente found the net with a right-footed shot from close range.
