Malaga's Jesualdo Ferreira Bemoans Fitness Of Squad Following Valencia Defeat
The Portuguese reckons a lack of pre-season for some of his players proved too much to overcome...
By Paul Macdonald
Malaga coach Jesualdo Ferreira confessed that the fact some of his players have suffered a truncated pre-season proved to be a fundamental factor in their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Valencia on Saturday evening.
Former Spanish international Joaquin did the damage in the second half, netting a double to deservedly take the points, and former Porto coach Ferreira reckoned the lack of preparations of some of his players proved decisive.
He bemoaned: “Valencia are a very good team, with quality players, and I believe this match came too early.
“We have players who have not completed pre-season and it shows. When a result is negative it is more difficult to overcome. Valencia played well, and we played well at times too, but the second goal proved to be too much.”
Ferriera knows it is now up to him to raise the team for their next match, and acknowledged that Valencia are difficult opponents.
He added: “We have to work. It is a negative result. The players are sad, but we are beginning. We are playing against one of the best teams in Spain.”
