As he settled into his new office, the former goalkeeper showered praise on the Blaugrana's previous regime and reserved special mention for his predecessor, Txiki Begiristain, who spent seven years as the club's technical secretary.
"I want to remember the people who have been here before me, starting with Begiristain," he was quoted as saying by AS.
"There have been many successes in the last era, and they have put together a great squad. I appreciate the work that has been done at the club, and the work of Begiristain has been exceptional. I would also like to thank Alexanco [Barcelona's youth system co-ordinator]."
Meanwhile, the club's sporting vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed that Zubizarreta has signed only a one-year contract to act as the sporting director, but an automatic renewal for two years is in place if both parties are satisfied by the end of the first term.
