According to a report in AS, highly rated Brazilian defender Pedro Geromel, currently under contract with Bundesliga outfit Koeln, has attracted the interest of La Liga giants Real Madrid with his excellent performances last season.
The Blancos have been looking for defensive reinforcements for quite a while now and were initially after Benfica's David Luiz. However, the Portuguese champions are reluctant to let go of the centre-back.
Therefore, Madrid have turned their attention elsewhere and head coach Jose Mourinho apparently considers Geromel to be the perfect alternative.
The 24-year-old centre-back played for Palmeiras, Chaves and Vitoria Guimaraes before joining Koeln in the summer of 2008. Geromel has since developed into one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga.
Geromel has a contract until 2014 with the Geissbocke, but Koeln could be tempted to cash in on the defender if on offer in the region of €10 million comes in. Bayern Munich are also believed to be keeping tabs on the defender.
