A report earlier this week suggested that reigning Spanish champions Barcelona are interested in signing midfielder Bruno Soriano from Villarreal, but the player's agent has downplayed any such rumours.

"I'd like to make it clear that we have not opened negotiations with Barcelona about the transfer of Bruno. We really like Barcelona, but there's no truth in the rumours linking Bruno with them," said Jose Manuel Tarraga to EFE.

"Instead, we are eager to sign a new contract with Villarreal. Bruno feels at home at the club and is keen to stay with Villarreal for many more years. We're hopeful that contract negotiations will lead to a new deal."

The 26-year-old midfielder is a product of the Villarreal youth academy and has made over 80 official appearances for the Yellow Submarine since making his official debut in October 2006.

Barcelona are in the market for a new midfielder following the departure of Yaya Toure earlier this summer and they supposedly see Bruno Soriano as a good replacement. However, the player appears to be more interested in staying at Villarreal.
