thumbnail Hello,

Los Blancos will welcome the Portuguese back from his injury nightmare with a new deal...

Portugal international Pepe is ready to negotiate a contract extension with Real Madrid that will see him remain at the Santiago Bernabeu until the summer of 2015, reports from Spain suggest.

The defender, who is currently representing his country at the World Cup finals in South Africa, missed a significant chunk of the Liga season after injuring his knee in December, and faced an intensive rehabilitation program in order to take part in the tournament.

However, club doctors in Madrid have given the 27-year-old a glowing report as he battled to regain fitness, and los Blancos look set to reward him with an extension on his current deal, which expires in 2012.

Publication AS comments that the club have offered him a deal worth €2.8 million net per season, a significant increase in salary. Agent Jorge Mendes, who also represents Cristiano Ronaldo and his new boss Jose Mourinho, has been in talks with the club in order to tie up a deal when Pepe returns from South Africa.

The Brazilian-born defender moved to the Spanish capital in 2007 from Porto, and won the Primera Division title in his first season.
