Primera Division outfit Villarreal are considering making a move for Mexican international Rafael Marquez, currently under contract with Barcelona, according to a report on Cadena Ser.

The Yellow Submarine are eager to add a new defender to their squad in the summer transfer window and they've reportedly made Marquez one of their primary targets on the transfer market.

The 31-year-old defender has made well over 100 Primera Division appearances for Barcelona since joining them from Monaco in the summer of 2003, but Marquez has been struggling to get regular first team action in the 2009-10 campaign.

Therefore, the centre-back could decide to leave Barcelona in order to get more playing time elsewhere. Villarreal face stiff competition from Turkish titans Galatasaray in the race for Marquez's signature, while a number of MLS sides are keeping tabs on the defender, too.
