Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini today declared his view that this weekend's round of Liga matches will decide the championship, as Madrid take on Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla host Barcelona.

"I believe that La Liga will be all but decided this weekend. It is very difficult to see Barca losing the last match of the season at home," said the Chilean in comments reported Marca.

Pellegrini saw his squad as feeling very ambitious in the wake of Wednesday's triumph against Mallorca. "I see my team as being very strong in morale. We are not going to throw away La Liga, and our match against Athletic will not be easy. But we do not depend on ourselves. We have to win to give ourselves a chance."

Asked whether tomorrow's match will be his last at the Santiago Bernabeu, Pellegrini played down the question. "I signed a contract for two years and I believe I will be serving them. At the end of the season we will evaluate, but the truth is that we are fighting for a title until the very end. Both Barca and ourselves have done things to deserve La Liga. I would be amazed to see another team repeat such a season."

Finally commenting on Cristiano Ronaldo, Pellegrini praised his star player. "Cristiano is not surprising me. For me, he represents Madrid's spirit. But it is also true that we played two months without him and we are still very adept offensively. I hope we can reach the 100-goal mark in a season."
