Villarreal Chairman Fernando Roig Confirms Plans To Renew Coach Garrido's Contract
Qualifying for Europe is vital to the future of the Yellow Submarine...
By Paul Madden
Villarreal chairman Fernando Roig has confirmed that Juan Carlos Garrido will continue at the helm at the Madrigal next season as long as his team continues to deliver results.
Garrido took over on a short-term deal at the beginning of February after the dismissal of Ernesto Valverde and has since guided the Yellow Submarine into contention for a European place, a status Roig says is obligatory for next season.
"As for the renewal of Garrido logic will prevail. The club is quite clear and most important is that the team collects as many points as possible between now and the end of the season," Roig said, as quoted by AS.
"It is obligatory that the team qualifies for Europe, that depends very much on their daily work and I'm enjoying it a lot. Chances are that in the coming days we will know something. In the next week we should announce something about it.
"It is very important for the future of this club to qualify for Europe, because qualifying or not qualifying for European competitions mean very different things."
