Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted he would love to see England coach Fabio Capello return to the Spanish capital for a third coaching stint.

However, the former Manchester United winger has also confessed that he doesn’t expect former team-mate Wayne Rooney to be playing alongside him next season.

"I am still friends with Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at Manchester United," Ronaldo told the News of the World.

"I think Rooney is very happy in Manchester and even if Real Madrid tried to sign him, I don't think he would want to join me here."

But when asked if he would like to play under the Three Lions chief, Ronaldo declared: "Definitely.

"He is a very important coach, one of the best in the world, he has done a fantastic job in England and has won many titles in Italy so why not? You never know."

Having endured a largely unsuccessful season under current coach Manuel Pellegrini, it is expected that the Chilean chief will be shown the exit door this summer.

Early elimination from both the Champions League and the Spanish Cup, while playing catch-up to rivals Barcelona in the league has been deemed unacceptable.

Having already had two stints in charge at the Bernabeu, winning La Liga on both occasions, speculation of Capello’s return will be sure to put the FA on alert after this summer’s World Cup.

Ronaldo was also asked whether he missed playing for the Red Devils and performing in front of a packed Old Trafford.

"Manchester United are a fantastic club and I won many things there," he added. "But now I play for Real Madrid, the best club in the world and I want to win just like I did in Manchester.

"I am really happy to be here. And without me, Manchester United are doing very good things."
