The Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) has called off the proposed strike planned for Jornada 33 games (April 16-19) which would have affected all levels of Spanish football including the Primera Liga and the Liga Adelante.

The proposed strike had threatened fixture chaos in the league, which is already on a tight schedule to finish in time to allow Spain's national team adequate time to prepare for the World Cup finals.

The announcement was made after meeting involving the AFE, Spanish Sports Council (CSD), the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Spanish Professional Football League (LFP) at the governmental organisation's headquarters.

The meeting is understood to have resolved issues discussed on Monday and significant advances were made during the second session and according to the LFP website, the matters at hand have been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.

"The commitment of the CSD and the organisation's president [Spanish Secretary of Stare for Sport] Jaime Lissavetzky together with the constructive disposition offered by the four bodies involved, the call for dialogue and the collective aim to reach a definitive agreement have been instrumental in avoiding a highly unpleasant situation and to guarantee footballers’ salaries and the stability of the various competitions," an extract from the statement read.
