Real Madrid's Sergio Canales: Rejecting Barcelona's Youth Set-Up Was The Correct Decision
The teen starlet feels turning Barca down has paid dividends...
By Paul Madden
Canales signed for Real Madrid in a €5 million deal earlier this year but is expected to remain on loan with the Cantabrian side until the end of the 2010-11 season.
It has previously been reported that he rejected approaches from the Blaugrana on a couple of occasions during his teens but now Canales has told of his belief that the decision not to move to Catalunya was the right one.
"It [Barca's approach] was after the underage tournament in Brunete, but my family and I believed it best to stay in Santander and develop as a person, because in the world of football you never know. I think in the end, it was the right decision," he is quoted as saying by AS.
