According to a report in Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Primera Division giants Real Madrid are considering making a move for highly rated Benfica centre-back David Luiz.

Los Blancos have been vulnerable at the back since the loss of Pepe to a knee injury and head coach Manuel Pellegrini is eager to add to his ranks this summer. The Chilean gaffer has reportedly made David Luiz his primary target on the transfer market.

Real's general director Emillio Butragueno has confirmed that the Champions League hopefuls are closely monitoring David Luiz and revealed that Madrid have already contacted the player's representatives to discuss a summer move.

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for Benfica this season and his outstanding performances haven't gone unnoticed in the rest of Europe. Bayern Munich and Chelsea are also believed to be keeping tabs on David Luiz.

The centre-back has a €50 million release clause in his current contract, but Benfica are expected to be willing to open talks if a €30m offer comes in.
