German Press Rages About Referee Shortcomings In Stuttgart - Barcelona Match
According to the German press, Barca were once again the beneficiaries of a silent whistle on the part of the referee...

In a report by Spanish sports daily AS, Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers has been accused of turning a blind eye to some very clear fouls, including two clear penalties committed by Gerard Pique (hand ball inside the area) and Rafa Marquez (foul in the area with an elbow in the chest of Timo Gebhart).
It was also acknowledged that Cristian Molinaro stopped a shot that would have resulted in a goal by Zlatan Ibrahimovic with his hand, but that penalty would have been nullified as 'Ibra' controlled the ball in the area with his hand before shooting. Finally, Barcelona's goal has been called into question as Gerard Pique's header across to Ibrahimovic possibly came from an offside position.
German publication El Spiegel called Kuipers a "bad referee", citing the many calls that seemed to favour Barcelona while Bild also called foul for the referee keeping his whistle silent on the fouls in the Barca area. Other publications that went on to lambast the referee were Welt, Stuttgarter Nachrichten, and Stuttgarter Zeitung.
