Real Madrid Fans Upbeat About Team After Villarreal Performance

The pressure seems to have been lifted with the 6-2 result...

Last week the prevailing tone was one of outrage and disappointment as Real Madrid lost the first leg of their Champions League tie at Olympique de Lyon with a poor performance, so much so that some were calling for Manuel Pellegrini's firing, while only about 20% of Madridistas in the capital believed Los Blancos could overturn the result.

However, after last night's 6-2 demolition of Villarreal, the tone has changed completely as now Madridistas throughout the city are euphoric over their team's play and have high hopes for the Spanish giants against Lyon on March 10.

In interviews conducted after the match by Marca, fans leaving the Bernabeu praised the work of the team, with Cristiano Ronaldo as the standout in a great match, one of Madrid's most complete during the course of the season. It seems Manuel Pellegrini, Jorge Valdano and Florentino Perez can rest easy...for now.
