The centre half eager to keep tabs on the leaders...

Real Madrid central defender Raul Albiol has stressed the importance of his sides win over Villarreal as they remain two points off league leaders Barcelona.

Albiol insisted that his side were worthy winners but noted that the Yellow Submarine had made things difficult for his team.

Two goals a piece from Kaka and Gonzalo Higuain and one each from Cristiano Ronaldo and Xabi Alonso gave Madrid a convincing victory but they didn't have it all their own way.

"I think the team played a great match. We have scored six, but we missed a few more. We are all very happy with the game. We wanted to forget Tuesday's game [against Lyon] and now we're still two points behind Barcelona," he is quoted as saying by AS.

"Villarreal play very good football but they weren't at their best. When it was 3-2 they seemed to be making things difficult for us, but I think we were fair winners. It was important to be calm when they scored and we were."
