Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has quashed rumours that the side has lost some self-confidence after a plague of injuries and their first Liga loss of the season last weekend.

Despite the points surrendered against Atletico de Madrid, Pique insists that the players were very upbeat and that "we are carrying on as normal and are convinced that we will win on Saturday [against Racing Santander]", as reported by AS.

As for injuries, Pique was optimistic that "slowly players are recovering" and hoped all injuries will be a thing of the past "in a couple weeks", save the knocks suffered by Eric Abidal and Seydou Keita.

Pique also emphasised that he felt indifference with respect to Real Madrid's outcome against Lyon in the Champions League, pointing out: "If they [Madrid] are eliminated, they will have more time for La Liga, but if they continue, we could find ourselves facing them. Either way it doesn't worry me."

The towering defender also warned of the necessity to be completely focused in Europe's elite competition. "If you lose concentration for even 10 minutes, it can cost you the tournament. It is [in the Champions League] that one demonstrates whether a team is prepared for big matches."

Pique also indirectly warned that "last season, they [Real Madrid] counted on the three points at the Santiago Bernabeu", a match Los Blancos lost by a 6-2 scoreline to Barca.

Asked to comment about Thierry Henry's diminished role in the squad, Pique showed confidence in the fact that his team-mate would soon "return to the pitch, if not this Saturday, then next Saturday" and that the Frenchman "continues to work as always and is very strong in training. There is no cause for worry."

Finally, Pique was asked to comment on the Cesc Fabregas saga, as the Arsenal captain has been heavily linked to the Blaugrana in recent weeks by the Barcelona press. "I am not sure if it will happen this year or another, but surely he will end up coming here because he is a Cule and he would like to return."

Pique finished by adding that he will sign a contract extension with Barca "within a few days", a deal that could see the defender stay at the Camp Nou until 2015.
