Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on Belgian centre half Jan Vertonghen who currently plays for Eredivisie side Ajax.
The versatile defender, who also plays as a central midfielder, is said to have impressed at the Amsterdam ArenA since the departure of international team-mate Thomas Vermaelen to Arsenal and Johan Cruyff is understood to be an admirer of the 22-year-old.
Vertonghen's promise and vast range of attributes make him a key target for the Blaugrana according to Sport, who state that his physical presence, pace and tactical awareness have impressed coach Pep Guardiola.
His current deal with the Dutch powerhouse runs until June 2013 but it is suggested that a bid from one of Europe's elite clubs could force a deal with Real Madrid also said to be keeping an eye on the talented youngster.
