Pep Guardiola's Barcelona did not just lose their first match in La Liga yesterday at the Vicente Calderon, but also their attacking engine in Xavi Hernandez, as reported by Marca.
Barcelona lost Seydou Keita in the second minute of the match to a muscle tear as the Malian, who will now be out for a month, joined Eric Abidal (two months), Yaya Toure (two weeks), Dani Alves (three weeks) and Dmytro Chygrynskiy (one week) in the Barca infirmary.
But Guardiola was greeted with even more bad news as defeat became clear when his midfield mastermind had to be substituted with a knock. The Spanish international has picked up a muscle tear in his right leg and will be out for two weeks, thus missing Barcelona's Liga fixture against Racing Santander and Malaga, along with the away leg of their Champions League fixture against Stuttgart. His participation in the Spanish national team for their international friendly against France on March 3 will also be uncertain.
A further absence to Guardiola's side for Barca's next match is Sergi Busquets, who will miss the clash with Racing through suspension. Rafa Marquez and Gerard Pique will be back in the side after serving out their suspensions against Atletico de Madrid.
