Real Madrid's Karim Benzema To Miss Xerez Match And Lyon Reunion
The Frenchman is set to miss his long-awaited reunion with his ex-team...
By Cyrus C. Malek
After missing training this morning, Karim Benzema underwent medical testing that has revealed a left-leg injury that will effectively rule him out of action for a week. The injury is likely to keep the Frenchman out of the squad list for the next Liga match at Xerez and most probably rule him out for Real Madrid's visit to his former club Olympique Lyon next week in the Champions League.
The striker expressed his hope earlier in the week that his competition with team-mate Gonzalo Higuain would not rule him out of a starting position against his old team, but now it seems that his injury, as reported by AS, will keep Benzema out of the clash anyway.
The Frenchman's absence coincides with Cristiano Ronaldo's return to the Madrid line-up as the Portuguese star has seen off his two-match ban picked up for a wayward elbow against Malaga. Madrid's attack is anticipated to consist of Higuain, Ronaldo and Kaka for the next two matches.
