Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has spoken out in defence of team-mates Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka.

Speaking to Marca, Ramos stated, “I always said that when Madrid win, it wasn’t just because of Ronaldo, Kaka or another, and when you lose it is not fair to blame the failures on these people alone.”

Following Real Madrid's 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao last weekend, Ramos went on to say he would never blame 'CR9' or Kaka and that his team were not only unlucky but faced a superb goalkeeper in Gorka Iraizoz.

“I do not blame them for anything, we gave everything we had, the difference was marginal, which is unfortunate,” he said. “We must not forget about Iraizoz, who was very successful.”

The former Sevilla man also urged his team-mates to avoid another slip-up if they wanted to stay in the title race as Real are now five points behind Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

“When there is a five point difference you have to be much more careful, a bigger lead would be important because the leader has room to fail slightly. But I repeat, there are lots of games remaining and we will not give up.”
