Villarreal CEO Jose Manuel Llaneza has criticised the performance of referee Bernard Gonzalez Vazquez following his side’s battling 1-1 draw with Barcelona at Camp Nou on Saturday evening.

Two incidents in the first half saw the visitors have legitimate claims for a penalty kick, particularly when Nilmar appeared to be fouled by Carlos Puyol as he bore down on goal.

Llaneza was incensed at the decision and also at the treatment of his club from referees all season, and he told journalists after the match, “There has be no logic to the referee’s decisions. Something is not normal.”

Villarreal have yet to be awarded a penalty in sixteen Primera Division matches this season, but curiously have had four given against them, the most in the league along with Atletico Madrid.

Other members of the Yellow Submarines squad also passed comment on the statistic. Spanish international Joan Capdevila remarked, “I am a bit surprised about the lack of penalties. Yesterday there were two incidents, at least one should have been whistled for.

“We have spent a lot of time in the area and yet none of the decisions were in our favour.”
