Sevilla Defender Sebastien Squillaci Suffers Ankle Injury In Atletico Madrid Defeat
Coach Manolo Jimenez faces more injury woe...
Sevilla defender Sebastien Squillaci picked up an ankle injury during his side’s 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid on Saturday evening, and faces a spell on the sidelines.
The Frenchman had to be substituted during the clash at the Vicente Calderon, and the initial diagnosis is that the stopper has suffered damage to the cartilage in his left ankle.
He is set to miss the Rojiblancos’ Copa del Rey clash with Barcelona in midweek, and it is thought that the injury may require a period of rest to enable a full recovery.
To add to the woes, defensive partner Julien Escude is also a major doubt for the clash with the Blaugrana. He has suspected gastroenteritis, a condition which forced him to leave the team hotel prior to the weekend fixture.
Utility man Adriano and Argentine winger Diego Perotti also succumbed to minor knocks during the match, but both are expected to recover in time to face Pep Guardiola’s champions on Tuesday evening.
A late header from Antonio Lopez was enough to condemn Sevilla to defeat and see them lose further ground on the leaders in the Primera Division table.
