According to a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport, Serie A outfit Genoa are looking into the possibilities of luring Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez to Italy.

Genoa have been struggling to find their best form this season and sit only eleventh in the table halfway the season. Therefore, head coach Gianpiero Gasperini is keen to ad to his ranks in the winter transfer window.

The report suggests that the Grifoni were already interested in signing Marquez last summer, but that Barcelona refused to let go of the Mexican international back then.

Nevertheless, the 30-year-old defender is finding regular first team football hard to come by this campaign and the Champions League holders could allow Marquez to move on after all.

It's not yet known how much Genoa are willing to pay for the experienced defender.
