Atletico Madrid striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle joined from Recreativo in the suummer.
Atletico Madrid forward Florent Sinama-Pongolle has confirmed that he will be leaving the club in the January transfer window – but added that no deal has been confirmed as yet.

Sporting Lisbon appear favourites to land the French striker, and Marca reported yesterday that the Portuguese side have agreed a €6 million fee for the 25-year old, who has failed to hold down a first-team slot for Los Colchoneros since his switch from Recreativo in 2008.

In an interview with newspaper A Bola, the player himself admitted that he would be moving on, but that he had not agreed terms with Sporting, although he was confident that the move would be completed soon.

He said, “Right now there is no confirmation, although Sporting Lisbon is a great club.

“They always play in the Champions League or the Europa League, and at the moment I feel very wanted. They are a good team that will give me confidence. I am at the height of my career and I do not mind taking risks.”

Pongolle also added that he had received offers to return to his homeland, but the level of interest shown in him by Sporting means he has made up his mind where he hopes to move.

“I have had proposals from France, but I reflected and I know that I must go to Sporting,” he concluded.
