Valencia Director Fernando Gomez Confirms Interest In VfL Wolfsburg Defender Ricardo Costa
The defender is available on a free transfer in June...
Valencia sporting director Fernando Gomez has admitted that VfL Wolfsburg central defender Ricardo Costa is a target, according to Super Deporte.
The Portuguese centre half was on the verge of a move to Real Zaragoza during the summer but the move collapsed after the club apparently made changes to the offer.
Costa is out of contract with the German champions at the end of June and Los Che seem intent on snapping up out of contract players when possible as they try to emerge from financial turmoil. Gomez has previously stated that Chori Dominguez will remain the club's only winter signing.
Club president Manuel Llorente is understood to have already met with the player's agent, Jorge Mendes, and talks are believed to be at an advanced stage.
"We have interest in many players and we're looking at all positions. Ricardo Costa is one of the players we are following but nothing is completely finalised," Gomez declared.
"There is contact like with many other players. We must assess things and consider the economic aspect but are happy with the sporting opportunities we can offer. This does not mean that there is anything concrete as yet."
