Villarreal Coach Ernesto Valverde Pleased With Conclusion To 2009

Win over Racing recovers some of the ground lost earlier in the season...

Ernesto Valverde, Villarreal (MARCA)
Villarreal coach Ernesto Valverde said the 2-0 win over Racing Santander at the Madrigal has set his side up to recover the ground they lost after a poor start to the season.

Second half strikes from Joseba Llorente and Giuseppe Rossi gave the Yellow Submarine their fourth win in five Primera Liga outings and push them up the table to ninth in the table with European places firmly in sight for the second half of the season.

"The goals we set ourselves are closer because we were in a very difficult situation where we had a hard time winning, but now we are in good shape and are much stronger in defence. They [Racing] did not create much danger," he said at a press conference afterwards.

"Although we're not yet halfway through the league, it appears that this break is a time to take stock and see the future much better after a win. This strengthens us a lot because it was a great victory. We have worked even when we lacked success."
