Athletic Bilbao Coach Joaquin Caparros Content With Display In Osasuna Win
The Basque side are up to sixth in the table following another home win...
Athletic Bilbao coach Joaquin Caparros reflected on the performances of his side during 2009 after they ended the year with a convincing 2-0 victory over Osasuna at San Mames.
The damage was done in the first eleven minutes, as Francisco Yeste and Fernando Llorente both hit the net and the Basque side head into the winter break just two points behind the Champions League positions in La Liga.
Caparros told journalists after the match how pleased he was with the displays of his team, but added that time will tell what they can achieve this season.
He said, “What we have done so far has occurred because the players have been self-improving. In the next game against Real Mallorca we must show the same ambition.
“I am happy with the work of the players but we must continue on this line.”
Caparros added that his side would have continued to attack in the second period, but decided to substitute Fernando Llorente as he complained of a slight knock.
“In the second part we wanted to push a bit more, but Fernando [Llorente] was suffering from discomfort and we had to take him off,” he said.
“We must value the work he had done for the team.”
