What Happens To Barcelona Does Not Matter To Me - Real Madrid's Marcelo
The Brazilian wanted no talk of the Catalans at his post-training press conference...
Real Madrid's Marcelo refused to comment on Barcelona's affairs in his post-training press conference on Thursday, according to AS.
"What Barcelona does has nothing to do with me or Madrid," began the Brazilian. "I neither want them to win [the Club World Cup] nor lose, what happens to Barca does not matter to me. I am only thinking about Real Madrid, not what other teams are doing. We need to concentrate on ourselves, do things well, and win a title for ourselves as well."
When asked about a possible change in position from left-wing to left-back to help cover for Portuguese central defender Pepe's season-ending knee injury, the Brazilian youngster was equally indifferent. "I always want to play for Madrid. Whether that be on the left wing, right wing, central midfield, or left-back, I do not have any problem".
Marcelo was quick to emphasise his flexibility to the Brazilian national squad as well as to his club. "I do not know what will happen in the future. Right now I am playing in the midfield, but by trade I am a left-back. In any case, it is not a problem for me, but for the coach of Brazil [Dunga]. He is the one who needs to decide. What I do know is that I have to do a lot of work to be able to play at the World Cup."
Madrid team-mate Raul Albiol may face an injury lay-off after picking up an injury in training today, but Marcelo hopes the centre-back will return soon. "I did not see what happened as everyone was already crowding around when I looked over. I do not know if he will be able to play against Zaragoza, but I hope it is nothing serious".
