Estudiantes captain Juan Veron has declared his admiration for Pep Guardiola's Barcelona and his Argentine compatriot Leo Messi.

Ahead of El Leon's forthcoming FIFA Club World Cup semi-final against Pohang Steelers, the former Inter man told members of the media in Abu Dhabi that, "For me, Barcelona is the best team in the last two years".

'La Brujita' went on to heap praise on Barca, describing them as "a team team that gives pleasure". The midfielder, who is enjoying a highly successful end to his career back home in Argentina, also singled out his international team-mate Lionel Messi for individual praise.

"Leo, in this last year has hit an impressive peak individually," he said, before admitting he "was happy" both for Messi and football as a whole "because we can see a great player in his great moment".

Barcelona face Mexican club Atlante on Wednesday in their semi-final of a tournament that is historically considered much more important in South American than it is in Europe.
