Villarreal Coach Ernesto Valverde Insists His Team Deserved Win Over Atletico Madrid
The Yellow Submarine won it in stoppage time...
Villarreal coach Ernesto Valverde said his side fully deserved their 2-1 Primera Liga win over Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon.
The Yellow Submarine came from a goal down at the interval, after Simao opened the scoring, to secure their first away win in the league so far this season thanks to two second half headers from David Fuster and Joseba Llorente.
"We dominated the game, but we lacked the finishing touch at times. We had several clear chances and eventually got the win, which I think we deserved," he said afterwards, according to AS.
"We had not won away from home this year and we are excited because it's a win that can propel us upwards. We've been chasing a victory for some time away from home and it has finally arrived. We are very calm and allows us to look up the table."
Valverde acknowledged the threat posed by the hosts up front but said that he felt they looked nervous at the back when his side attacked.
"Atletico have very good players up front, but seem nervous at the back. The are in a similar situation to us, they've started badly but should start climbing [the table]," he stated.
