Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo has played down the significance of his miss against Barcelona in El Clasico last Sunday and insisted it does not play on his mind at all.

The world's most expensive footballer came under criticism from sectors of the Spanish press for not taking the chance to put Madrid ahead in El Clasico on Sunday but Ronaldo says these things happen in football.

The winger had a great opportunity to give Los Merengues the lead against the champions after 20 minutes of the top of the table clash but Victor Valdes made a fantastic save with his foot to deny the Portuguese star.

"The truth is I don't lose sleep over it. These things happen in football, I tried it, it didn't come off and I will try again," he declared, according to AS.

"It was a good game, we had chances but didn't score. There is no regret, we will lift our heads and work to win the next game."

Ronaldo will be back in action in a white shirt this Saturday when Madrid host Almeria at the Bernabeu.
