Real Madrid To Retain Guti And Fernando Gago - Agent
The midfield duo will not be moving to new pastures any time soon...
Real Madrid are not planning to sell out-of-favour midfielders Fernando Gago and Guti, according to their agent.
Guti, who has been frozen out by Manuel Pellegrini ever since his outburst in the Copa del Rey thrashing against Alcorcon, has been linked with a possible move to Inter during the winter transfer window, or a switch the English Premier League a likely option as well.
Fernando Gago, on the other hand, has seen his playing time limited by the arrival of Xabi Alonso, who is the first choice centre midfielder alongside Lassana Diarra.
The holding midfielder is concerned about his chances of featuring in the 2010 World Cup with Argentina after being overlooked by Diego Maradona in the two key qualifiers. It is believed that several Italian clubs are interested in the young Argentine, while a loan back to Boca Juniors looms around the corner as well.
Agent Zoran Vekic, who represents both midfielders, first rubbished reports of a move for Guti. "I can categorically deny the presence of representatives of Inter in Madrid in the coming days. There will be no meetings," he was quoted as saying by Calciomercato.it.
"The only thing I know about Inter is that [Samuel] Eto'o and [Wesley] Sneijder, his great friends, have told [Guti],'Why don't you come here? It would be nice to have you with us', but nothing more. Just talk with friends."
Vekic then spoke about the fact that Guti has recently celebrated his fourteenth year at the Bernabeu, saying that, "I think the best thing for him is to remain in Madrid."
The talk then switched to Fernando Gago, who Vekic said has the confidence of the Madrid hierarchy. "Real have spoken directly with [Gago] after the match with Barcelona and said they count on him.
Gago has plenty of chances, says his agent, highlighting the fact that defensive midfielder Mahmadou Diarra will be going to the African Cup of Nations this January and that Lassana Diarra is currently suspended with a red card.
Still, Vekic cannot say with certainty that his client will remain in Spain, but he did postpone any possible move until next summer. "It's too early to say with confidence that Gago will stay at Real, but I think it's hard that they will consider deals for him in January," he concluded.
Gago and Guti will have the chance to shine this weekend as both Lass and Kaka are out for the clash against Almeria at the Bernabeu.
